Opportunity Knocks: Time to Anchor the Vision

Can you help us find land?

Dear Lovers of the Wild, 

This is an unusual newsletter to write. We have a key in our hands to something wild and transformative, but we need help finding the door. 

You see, what we are really trying to do here is to weave nature and culture together - to create experiences where people taste the power of ‘connection medicine’ in a way that will change their lives. It will change the way they live, how they experience nature, what possibilities they see for themselves and their communities. They, too, will grow the skills to weave nature and culture back together again. 

But our obstacle is access to land. We need somewhere to call Home for this project. Somewhere to anchor this vision. There’s so much more waiting in the wings that we haven’t been able to offer without access to land (rites-of-passage programs for young folk, family camps, women’s depth dives, rewilding camps, working bees and weekend gatherings etc etc). It could be a place for like-minded groups to gather too.

I had a dream of such a place 7 years ago - it was called “The Farm”, a name that strategically hid the power and beauty of the place. It was exquisitely both wild and tended, and the dream narrator told me it was a place people come for transformation. In the dream I was just about to walk through the gate and claim caretakership. While this might have already happened on the psycho-spiritual plane, it hasn’t on the physical! 

Some old and treasured friends, upon realising this, have offered us some money to be held within a non-for-profit structure, to buy land for this purpose. These friends were instrumental in my early adult years as I stood up for forest protection, learning to be a voice for the voiceless. They opened my eyes to the big picture of what this world could be. 

This is Amazing! Thank-you Mystery for answering this prayer. So the doorway we need to find is the right land. We’ve been looking hard for almost a year. We think it may come not through real estate agents but our community. Can you help?

Here is what we’re looking for: 

  • Bush acreage with some cleared space for camping/camp kitchen

  • A water source to swim in (ideally a creek)

  • Adjacent to reserve/State Forest

  • Within 2-3 hours of Melbourne

  • Somewhere beautiful!
