Dancing Freedom Fridays

  • Pulse 1 Pitt Street Brunswick, VIC, 3056 Australia (map)

All pre-modern cultures recognised the power of dance, movement, and rhythm to take us beyond the confines of our ordinary waking consciousness.

The Dancing Freedom practice is a moving meditation that utilises the intelligence of our shamanic, somatic, ecstatic and expressive selves. We explore the ways in which we can access the deep wisdom stored in our bodies through conscious movement and ecstatic dance.

(Note: NO ENTRY AFTER 7:45pm)

Friday 15th: Spontaneity.

Friday 15th: Spontaneity.

In a moment, of well, spontaneity, this week's theme came to me. I had woken up one Sunday morning and felt the urge to get out to the wilds. I packed just enough to keep me warm and dry should I want to camp the night, but was mostly just thinking of an afternoon wander.

Wander I did, quite deliciously, spontaneously following the urges of walking, sitting, lying, crawling, eating, drinking, singing. The planning mind disappeared and I flowed like the river I followed. Returning to the car I made a cup of tea and sat by the river, assuming I was heading home. A path down the creek beckoned. A picturesque spot just large enough for my tent appeared and I knew in a second I wanted to lay my body on that patch of earth the night. And so, spontaneously, I did.

For me spontaneity is the art of being present; of responding to the moment-by-moment impulses of our hearts and our energy bodies. In spontaneity, there is an inbuilt deep trust in oneself, that we know what will serve us in any moment.

Dance is a great way to practice spontaneity and flow, and this evening will be a practice in getting out of our heads, and into the spontaneous flow of our ecstatic movement.

Love to see you there,

Liberate yourself through movement. We invite you to dance with your whole self… not the dance of performers and acrobats, but the dance deep inside of you, the one only you can do. Your dance is your dance. It’s the unique way your body moves, your feelings flow and your soul expresses. It’s the way you connect with self, other, community and the earth. No one else can do it for you. So, come home, remember and renew. Join us in the dance.
